For children and young people to have any hope in navigating the many crises facing the planet, they need to be supported and equipped to participate in public discussion and decision-making processes. I wholeheartedly support the Enabling Child and Youth Global Citizenship Literacies Project, an important and timely initiative that aims to help children and young people cultivate the skills to engage in matters that impact on all aspects of their lives. By developing and distributing resources, this project will enable children and young people across Australia enjoy their right to participation, as guaranteed by article 12 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The Enabling Young Voices for Civic Action project website houses resources developed by asking how can education further embed child and youth global citizenship literacies and leadership, so that we can all work together to create positive change.
To inspire and challenge your global citizenship education thinking and practices, please listen to the wisdom of Queensland’s Children’s Commissioner Natalie Lewis, Queensland Youth Parliamentarians, Justine Friedman, Harshitha Peddireddy and Theo Dickey and Ngugi and Wakka Wakka academic leader Professor Tracey Bunda and young Yuru leader Arielle Henaway.
We also acknowledge our colleagues with whom we have a longstanding research collaboration from which this project has directly grown, and who have substantively contributed to the development of the Transformative Literacies For Active Global Citizenship Framework prior to and throughout this project:
